Defining your business model


Before doing anything in the Excalibur dashboard, first determine and define the business model that you wish to create. Answer these key questions to get started:

1. Are you building a metered, hard or other type of paywall? 

Metered/Soft Paywall

  • Protect content based on the volume of content consumed per user (Allow user to have access to certain number of views per month before asking them to subscribe)
  • JavaScript code can be placed in the header of your home page. For WordPress users, just install the plugin located here  Excalibur WordPress Plugin.  All you need to set is your Site Token ID.
  • Metered models in Excalibur can track users across devices using an additional configuration mode (Camelot)

Hard Paywall

  •  Allows no free content and prompt the user straight away to pay in order to read, listen or watch the content
  • JavaScript code can be placed in the header of your home page. For WordPress users, just install the plugin located here  Excalibur WordPress Plugin.  All you need to set is your Site Token ID.
  • Metered models in Excalibur can track users across devices using an additional configuration mode (Camelot)

Single Page  Event Paywall

  • Do you need to offer a different campaign on separate pages from the same website. Something like event promotions, or different fundraising or  donations pages.   We are the only the provider that can currently achieve this configuration.

Excalibur Accounts

  • Users will register/login by creating Excalibur accounts
  • Client can leverage the Excalibur payment processor accounts and will receive net-revenue payouts from us.
  • Users must login via the Excalibur dashboard to manage their payment information

4. Given your CMS, should you implement your paywall using a plugin or JavaScript code? Even if Piano does not have an existing plugin available, it is quite easy for us to integrate with any CMS so that a business user can mark content as locked or free within their CMS dashboard.

Plugins

  • Plugins are currently available for WordPress. All you need is you install it, use your site token ID and you are good to go.  Excalibur WordPress never needs to be updated by you , simplifying your life. It is design to automatically update.
  • Relies on Excalibur Dashboard for all paywall settings

JavaScript

  • Can be implemented with any CMS
  • Relies on Excalibur  Dashboard for all paywall settings

Functionality by Role

We have three different roles and each role will be able to view their respective rights and sections in dashboard as shown below in the screenshots.

Dashboard

This Dashboard section contains detailed functionality for each User Role. This manual is designed to understand each user roles specific permissions level, functionality, and user view. Described below is each module and the modules corresponding user role (Admin, Manager or Associate).

1. Admin Services :

As soon as we open Dashboard we will be able to see our respective modules in it. This Admin Service Module is designed specifically for Administrator (Admin Role). No other role will be able to see this module as it is specifically for admin role.

1.1 Create System User : Admin can create User by clicking on “Create System User”.

Admin needs to fill all information as mentioned in above screenshot to create system user.

a) First Name
b) Last Name
c) User Name
d) Email
e) Password
f) Country
g) Title Role
h) ADD ASSET PERMISSION

Select which Role you want to assign to your user.
• Customer Service Representative and Manager Access

• Associate (Customer Service Representative)

• Administrator ( All access )

i) Summary View : This show’s summary details for the recently created user as shown below:

1.2 Account Search :
Admin can easily search for a customer account whether he is a user, associate, manager or another admin.

The only thing admin needs to do here is fill in the two fields and click search as shown above.

You can search account by three types as mentioned below:

I) Enter Email Address in input field and select Email from dropdown and click on Search.
II) Enter Last Name in input field and select Last Name from dropdown and click on Search.
III) Enter Account Id in input field and select Account# from dropdown and click on Search.

As soon as you hit Search button. You will be able to see Search Results table as shown above.

• As soon as the search results appear infront of you. You can click on respective user and see their Account summary.
• You can even sort the user list by Email Address, Name or Account# if there are multiple users.

Client Support Services

Both Admin and Manager’s will have access to this module. This Module has two sections i.e.“Create Customer “ and “Customer Search” which simply means that you can create customers as well as search customers with the help of this module.

2.1 Create Customer :
You can Add Subscription to particular customer.
a) Select Organization name and then select Asset Name as shown below:

b) You will be able to see Products associated with the organization and asset name you have selected.

When you Click to select a product it will take you to Account Creation page as shown below and you need to enter following details and once you fill in all information in the given form click “Create Account” to create account for customer.

  1. First Name
  2. Last Name
  3. Email and Confirm Email
  4. Password and Confirm Password
  5. Security Question and Security Answer
  6. Payment Info
    1. Card Type
    2. Card Number
    3. Card Expiration
    4. Card Holder Name
    5. CVV
    6. Address
    7. City
    8. Zip Postal Code
  7. Email Options

2.2 Customer Search:
Admin and Managers can easily search for any customer’s account as shown below:
1. Type in relevant email address and select Email Address from dropdown menu and click search

In the same way you can search Customer Account by :
a) Last Name :
Type in LastName and select Last Name from dropdown menu and click search.

b) Account Number:
Type in Account No and select Account No. from dropdown menu and click search.

Reporting

This Reporting Module is used only for Admin.

An Admin can check three different things under this reporting module. They are as follows:

3.1 Revenue: As soon as you select Organization and Asset it shows Revenue in two different ways for that particular asset as mentioned below:-

REVENUE BY MONTH – You need to select month and year and it will give results for:

  • Total Revenue
  • Revenue from New Sales
  • Revenue from Renewals
  • Refunds

 

REVENUE GROWTH: – It shows revenue growth for :

  • Month Over Month
  • Quarter over quarter
  • Year Over Year
  • Year to Date
  • Lifetime

3.2 Subscribers:
Admin can check Subscriber’s reports similar to Revenue reports.

SUBSCRIBERS BY MONTH –  You need to select  product and then month and year  and then  it will give results for:

 

  • Current Subscribers
  • New Starts
  • New Stops
  • Net Growth

 

SUBSCRIBERS GROWTH: – It shows revenue growth for :

 

  • Month Over Month
  • Quarter over quarter
  • Year Over Year

3.3 Access Overtime
This section gives you detailed report about Subscribers Access Over Time.

For generating this report you  need to follow simple steps as mentioned below:

 

  1. Click on “Reporting” Module and then click on “Access”
  2. Select Organization Name
  3. Select Region
  4. Select Asset Name

 

This report will also show you Default Zone report under following headings:

 

  1. Product
  2. Accessed
  3. Current Subscribers
  4. % Accessed
